Cómo solicitar Property Tax Exemption for Legally Blind Homeowners (Clause 37 / 37A) en Massachusetts
Local boards of assessors (state framework: M.G.L. c. 59, § 5, Clauses 37 and 37A; DOR Division of Local Services)
Para quién es
Massachusetts homeowners who are legally blind can get money off the property tax on the home they live in. The exemption is $437.50 under Clause 37, or $500 in cities and towns that have voted to use Clause 37A. There is no age, income or asset limit. You must own the home (your share must be worth at least $5,000) and live in it as your main home on July 1. Apply every year with your local board of assessors by April 1, or within three months after tax bills are mailed if that is later. Include a current Certificate of Legal Blindness from the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind.
You must be legally blind as certified by the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind and meet the ownership and home rules on July 1. Usually only one personal exemption is allowed per year; if you qualify for more than one, the assessors give the one worth the most. Your local board of assessors makes the final decision.
