How to apply for MMAP — Michigan's State Health Insurance Assistance Program (Medicare Counseling)
Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), Aging, Community Living, and Supports Bureau
Who it's for
Michigan's State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), long known as MMAP (the Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program), gives free, unbiased Medicare counseling. Trained counselors help compare Medicare plans, enroll in Medicare Savings Programs and Extra Help, sort out bills and Medicare Summary Notices, and file appeals — at no charge, and without selling anything. Call 1-800-803-7174 to reach a local counselor.
MMAP/SHIP is a free counseling service — there is no income or asset test. The value is in informed plan choices and program enrollments that can save hundreds to thousands of dollars a year. Counselors do not sell plans.
