How to apply for Medicare Savings Program (Tennessee) — QMB / SLMB / QI

Division of TennCare

Who it's for

Medicare Savings Programs help people with Medicare pay their Part B premium, and (at the QMB level) also deductibles, coinsurance, and copays. Tennessee has three levels — QMB, SLMB, and QI — with rising income limits. As currently published, the highest level (QI) reaches $1,761/month for one person and $2,380/month for a couple; the resource limit is $9,950 (one person) or $14,910 (couple). Apply through TennCare Connect.

The income limit shown is the highest level (QI). QMB (full premium + cost-sharing help) and SLMB cut off at lower income. The figures are as published on the tn.gov TennCare page; they may reflect the prior year's Federal Poverty Level until Tennessee posts the annual update, so if you're close to the limit, apply anyway. QMB enrollees should not be billed for Medicare-covered services.
