How to apply for Indiana Disabled Veteran Property Tax Credits ($350 Wartime / $250 Age 62+)
County auditor (statewide credits under Indiana Code 6-1.1-51.3, created by HEA 1210-2026; guidance from the Indiana Department of Veterans' Affairs)
Who it's for
Indiana gives disabled veterans flat credits that come straight off the property tax bill. A veteran who served during a wartime period and has a service-connected disability rating of 10% or more receives a $350 credit each year. A veteran age 62 or older who served at least 90 days and has a disability rating of at least 10% receives a $250 credit — no wartime service needed, which is the path that matters most for seniors. A veteran who qualifies for both credits gets both, for $600 a year. These credits are new under a 2026 law (HEA 1210) and replace Indiana's old assessed-value deductions, starting with the 2026 assessment (the tax bill due in 2027). Surviving spouses can keep the credit. File once with the county auditor using State Form 12662.
The $350 credit requires wartime service and a service-connected rating of 10% or more; the $250 credit requires age 62 or older, at least 90 days of service, and a rating of at least 10%. A veteran who meets both sets of rules receives both credits ($600 total). Totally disabled veterans should ask about the 100% property tax exemption instead — an exemption recipient cannot also take these credits. The county auditor confirms eligibility and the filing deadline.
What you'll need
- VA award letter or pension certificate showing the disability rating (or a certificate of eligibility from the Indiana Department of Veterans' Affairs)
- DD-214 or other military discharge paperwork showing service dates
- Completed State Form 12662, filed with the county auditor
Where to apply
Apply online: official application
Step by step
- Confirm which credit or credits apply to you. The $350 Wartime Credit requires wartime service and a service-connected disability rating of 10% or more. The $250 Age 62+ Credit requires age 62 or older, at least 90 days of service, and a rating of at least 10% — no wartime service needed. If you meet both sets of rules, you can receive both credits ($600 total). Note: if you are totally disabled, ask your county auditor about the 100% property tax exemption instead — exemption recipients cannot also take these credits.
- Gather your documents. You will need: (1) your VA award letter or pension certificate showing your disability rating, or a certificate of eligibility from the Indiana Department of Veterans' Affairs; and (2) your DD-214 or other military discharge paperwork showing your service dates.
- Complete State Form 12662. This is the official Indiana application form for these credits. Fill it out fully before submitting.
- Submit your completed State Form 12662 and supporting documents to your county auditor. Indiana offers an online filing option — contact your county auditor's office to confirm the online submission process and the filing deadline for your county.
- Keep a copy of everything you submit for your records.
What to expect: After you submit State Form 12662, your county auditor will review your application and confirm your eligibility. These credits are new under Indiana law (HEA 1210-2026) and apply starting with the 2026 assessment, meaning they will first appear on the tax bill due in 2027. Processing times vary, so ask your county auditor for an estimate. This is a one-time application — the credit continues each year as long as you remain eligible. If your eligibility ends for any reason, you must notify your county auditor within 60 days. Surviving spouses may be able to continue receiving the credit; check with the county auditor for details.
