How to apply for Pennsylvania Amputee and Paralyzed Veterans' Pension ($150 per Month)

Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA)

Who it's for

Pennsylvania pays a state pension of $150 per month to veterans who lost — or lost the use of — two or more arms, hands, legs, or feet because of a service-connected injury or disease. The VA must rate the disability at 40% or higher in each affected limb. The veteran must have been a Pennsylvania resident when entering the military and been discharged honorably or under honorable conditions. The pension is paid on top of any federal VA compensation, and there is no income or asset test. Apply through the County Director of Veterans Affairs in the county of residence.

The qualifying condition is specific: a service-connected loss, or loss of use, of two or more extremities (arms/hands or legs/feet), with the VA rating the disability at 40% or higher in each affected limb. The veteran must also have been a Pennsylvania resident when entering the military. The County Director of Veterans Affairs can confirm whether the VA-documented condition meets the standard.

What you'll need

  • DD-214 or other military discharge paperwork
  • Proof of Pennsylvania residency at entry into the military
  • VA decision letter documenting the service-connected loss, or loss of use, of two or more extremities and the per-limb ratings
