How to apply for Texas Disabled Veteran Super Combo Hunting & Fishing License (Free)

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD)

Who it's for

Texas veterans with a VA disability rating of 50% or more — or the loss of use of a foot or leg — receive the Super Combo hunting and all-water fishing license package at no cost. The package includes the hunting license, fishing license, and all the standard stamps (migratory and upland game bird, archery, freshwater, saltwater with red drum tag). Show VA proof of the rating, or a Texas driver license with the Disabled Veteran designation, when getting the license each year.

Also available with the loss of use of a foot or leg regardless of rating percentage, and to qualifying non-resident disabled veterans. The veteran must be receiving compensation for the disability.

What you'll need

  • VA proof of disability showing the rating, or a Texas driver license with the Disabled Veteran designation

Where to apply

Apply online: official application

Step by step

  1. Confirm you qualify — you must be a Texas veteran with a VA disability rating of 50% or more, or have loss of use of a foot or leg, and be receiving compensation for that disability. Qualifying non-resident disabled veterans may also be eligible.
  2. Gather your proof of eligibility — either your VA documentation showing your disability rating or a Texas driver license with the Disabled Veteran designation.
  3. Apply online through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) to get your Super Combo Hunting and Fishing License at no cost.
  4. Show your proof of eligibility when obtaining the license to complete the process.
  5. Repeat this process each license year — the license is annual, so you will need to show proof of eligibility again at each renewal.

What to expect: After applying, you will receive the Super Combo package, which includes the hunting license, fishing license, and all standard stamps — migratory and upland game bird, archery, freshwater, and saltwater with red drum tag — at no cost. Processing times can vary, so contact the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department directly if you need a time estimate. Because this license is issued on an annual basis, be ready to show your proof of eligibility again each new license year to keep your benefits active.
