Who it's for
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps pay utility bills. In Marion County, LIHEAP is run by Community Action Partnership of North Alabama (CAPNA), which serves Cullman, Lawrence, Marion, Morgan and Winston counties. Since May 2026, applications are taken only at an in-person appointment. Schedule online or call the automated appointment hotline at 205-740-9933. Bring every required document, or the appointment may be rescheduled. Do not wait until service is about to be shut off.
The Community Action Agency decides eligibility and the benefit amount, and help depends on available funds. Statewide income screening lives on al.state.liheap.

- Copy of Social Security cards for all household members
- Income documents for all household members for the entire prior calendar month, such as pay stubs or a Social Security, SSI or disability benefit letter (no bank statements)
- Full current utility bill (or propane quote in winter) showing account name, number, and service address
- Copy of lease / utility allowance (only for Section 8/HUD or income-based housing)
