How to apply for Medicare Savings Programs in Connecticut (QMB, SLMB, ALMB)

Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS)

Who it's for

Connecticut's Medicare Savings Programs help people with Medicare Part A pay Medicare costs. All three levels pay the Medicare Part B premium and automatically enroll you in Extra Help (the Low Income Subsidy) for Part D drug costs. QMB also pays Medicare deductibles and co-insurance, much like a Medigap plan. The monthly income limits, effective March 1, 2026, are QMB $2,807 single or $3,806 couple, SLMB $3,073 single or $4,166 couple, and ALMB $3,272 single or $4,437 couple. Connecticut does not have an asset limit for Medicare Savings Programs, so DSS does not ask about your home or bank accounts. Apply online at ConneCT, or mail the W-1QMB application. Call the DSS Benefits Center at 1-855-626-6632.

Shown against the highest level (ALMB); lower income qualifies for more help. You must have Medicare Part A. Not all earned income is counted. ALMB depends on available funding, and people who get Medicaid cannot get ALMB. DSS makes the final decision.
