How to apply for CHOICES, Connecticut's SHIP for free Medicare health insurance assistance

Connecticut Department of Aging and Disability Services (ADS), with the five Area Agencies on Aging and the Center for Medicare Advocacy

Who it's for

CHOICES is Connecticut's State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP). It gives free, clear, and unbiased help with health insurance to people who have Medicare, and to their families and caregivers. Counselors give one-on-one help with all parts of Medicare, including Part A, Part B, Medicare Advantage (Part C), and Part D drug coverage. They can help you sign up for plans, compare Medicare Advantage and Part D plans, and find out if you qualify for programs that lower costs, like Medicaid, the Medicare Savings Program, and Extra Help. Help is available in person, by phone, by email, and in other ways. Call CHOICES at 1-800-994-9422 to reach a counselor in your area, or contact your local Area Agency on Aging.

Counseling is free and does not sell insurance. Counselors help you understand your choices and apply, but Medicare, Social Security, or DSS makes the decision on any benefit.

People who qualify for one senior program often qualify for others. See everything you may qualify for — free, no SSN, about five minutes.
