How to apply for Baker County Council on Aging Transportation — Door-to-Door + Duval/Columbia Shuttle
Baker County Council on Aging, Inc. (BCCOA) — 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving Baker County FL; the designated Community Transportation Coordinator for the Florida Transportation Disadvantaged (TD) program; contracted local AAA delivery partner under ElderSource (PSA 4 Area Agency on Aging); Transportation Department at 9264 Buck Starling Rd, Macclenny FL 32063
Who it's for
Baker County Council on Aging (BCCOA) operates the only public-transportation service in rural Baker County. The Transportation Program is door-to-door, ambulatory and wheelchair accessible, available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (no service weekends or holidays). Trip purposes are medical appointments and essential errands. BCCOA also operates scheduled shuttle services to Duval County (Jacksonville) and Columbia County (Lake City) — providing medical access to UF Health Jacksonville, Baptist Health, Mayo Clinic, and Lake City Medical Center for specialty care that isn't available within Baker County. Eligibility uses the Florida TD framework: age 60+ OR documented disability OR low-income transportation-disadvantaged status — any one of three pathways qualifies. BCCOA accepts Medicaid as a payment source for Medicaid-eligible non-emergency medical transportation. Phone the Transportation Department at 904-259-9315 to register and book rides.
BCCOA Transportation is Baker County's only public transit — there is no fixed-route bus service in this rural county. All trips are demand-response with advance reservation required. The cross-county shuttle service to Jacksonville (Duval) and Lake City (Columbia) is genuinely valuable for medical access — most rural FL transit operators don't cross county lines. Medicaid is accepted as a payment source, which is unusual and meaningful for low-income seniors. Service is Monday-Friday only — weekend and holiday medical needs require private transportation or family/friend help. Trip capacity is the binding constraint; book Duval/Columbia trips well in advance.
