How to apply for Alliance for Aging — Senior Nutrition + In-Home Services (Monroe County)
Alliance for Aging, Inc. — 501(c)(3) nonprofit incorporated 1988; designated by the State of Florida as the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for PSA 11, covering Miami-Dade and Monroe counties; administers OAA Title III nutrition + Community Care for the Elderly (CCE) + Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) services + Florida ElderHelpline routing for Monroe County (Florida Keys) seniors
Who it's for
Alliance for Aging, Inc. is the designated Area Agency on Aging for PSA 11 (Miami-Dade + Monroe counties), incorporated in 1988 as part of Florida's network of 11 Area Agencies on Aging under the Florida Department of Elder Affairs. Alliance for Aging serves Monroe County (the Florida Keys) seniors by funding and overseeing home and community-based services, with the explicit mission of helping older adults stay out of nursing homes. The Florida ElderHelpline (1-800-96-ELDER / 1-800-963-5337) routes Monroe seniors to local meal sites, CCE services, and other senior support; the Aging & Disability Resource Center is at 305-670-4357. Monroe is a series of small island communities with transient seasonal populations and a steady stream of tourists — a unique service delivery context. Services include: (1) OAA Title III Congregate Meals at local Keys meal sites (Key West, Key Largo, and other community sites); (2) Title III Home Delivered Meals for homebound seniors — note that there is NO meal site in Marathon, but home-delivered meals are provided to registered clients throughout the Middle Keys; (3) CCE services — Case Management, Companion services, Homemaker services, Personal Care, Respite, Specialized Medical Equipment; (4) Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) — comprehensive intake and referral for all aging-related services. Eligibility for the senior pathway is age 60+ and Monroe County residency. Apply via the ElderHelpline at 1-800-96-ELDER or 305-670-4357.
Alliance for Aging's 2-county PSA 11 service area (Miami-Dade + Monroe) is unique in the FL catalog — Monroe is geographically isolated from the densely populated Miami-Dade portion of the service area, separated by the long U.S. 1 corridor through the Keys. Monroe's small year-round population (~83,000) plus its seasonal tourist population create distinctive service delivery challenges. NO congregate meal site exists in Marathon (Middle Keys); home-delivered meals reach registered Middle Keys clients but no in-person community dining option. Key West and Key Largo communities have congregate meal sites. For specific Keys meal site locations and CCE service intake, call the Alliance for Aging ADRC (305-670-4357) or the ElderHelpline (1-800-96-ELDER). The Keys' linear geography over ~110 miles of U.S. 1 means seniors who can no longer drive depend on Key West Transit / Lower Keys Shuttle (fl.monroe.key_west_transit) and Monroe County paratransit for meal site access.
