Who it's for

SNAP gives a monthly benefit on the Louisiana Purchase Card (EBT) to buy groceries. In Louisiana, SNAP is run by the Louisiana Department of Health. Most households must meet a gross income limit, but a household with someone 60 or older or someone who gets certain disability payments only has to meet the net income test, after deductions. Older and disabled members with medical costs over $35 a month get a standard medical deduction of $161, or their actual costs if they are over $196. Households with an older or disabled member have no cap on the shelter deduction. The most one person can get is $298 a month. If all adults in the home are 60 or older or disabled and no one has earnings from work, a shorter application (ESAP) is available.
