How to apply for Avery County DSS — Energy Assistance: LIEAP & Crisis Intervention (Avery County)
Avery County Department of Social Services (Newland) — the local agency that takes LIEAP (heating) and Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) applications for Avery County.
Who it's for
North Carolina's Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) gives a one-time payment toward heating bills, and the Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) helps when a household faces a heating or cooling emergency. Both are run through the Avery County Department of Social Services. Households with someone age 60+ or a person with disabilities who gets services through the NC Division of Aging may apply starting December 1; other households apply January 1 through March 31 or until funds run out. Avery County: LIEAP/CIP are income-tested and administered by Avery County DSS. Priority application window for households age 60+ or with a disability opens December 1; general window January 1–March 31 or until funds are exhausted. Apply via ePASS or the county DSS.
