How to apply for Veteran Directed Care Program (Guernsey County)
Area Agency on Aging Region 9, Inc. (Cambridge), the designated Area Agency on Aging for PSA 9 in southeastern Ohio, in partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Who it's for
Self-directed home care for veterans who are at risk of going into a nursing home. The veteran is given a budget and chooses their own care providers and services, so they can stay at home and in the community instead. Family members, friends, and neighbors can be paid for the care they provide. Ask your VA medical center care team for a referral to Area Agency on Aging Region 9, or call the agency directly at 1-800-945-4250 or email aaa9@aaa9.org.
The veteran must be at risk of nursing home admission and be approved by Veteran Directed Care Program staff at their local VA medical center — the VA, not the Area Agency on Aging, makes that call. The veteran must also be willing to act as the employer of the people they hire, and must complete the program orientation from Area Agency on Aging Region 9. Call 1-800-945-4250 to start.
