How to apply for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)

Who it's for

SNAP gives a monthly benefit on an EBT card to buy groceries. In South Carolina, a household's gross monthly income generally cannot exceed 130% of the federal poverty level: $1,696 for one person, $2,292 for two, and $2,888 for three. Households with someone 60 or older or disabled only have to meet a net income limit ($1,305 for one person, $1,763 for two) after deductions, and may have up to $4,500 in resources. People 65 or older with no earned income can use a shorter mail-in form through the Elderly Simplified Application Project (ESAP). Apply online through the DSS Benefits Portal, in person, or by mail or fax.
