How to apply for Veteran-Directed Care (VDC) — Williams County in Ohio
Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio (Toledo), the designated Area Agency on Aging for PSA 4 (Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Henry, Lucas, Ottawa, Paulding, Sandusky, Williams and Wood counties), in partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
Who it's for
Self-directed home care for veterans of any age 18 and older who need help with daily activities to stay at home. The VA sets a budget (spending plan) based on the veteran's care needs, and the veteran chooses who provides care, the pay, the hours and the services. The veteran can hire a spouse, children, other family, friends or others, so family caregivers can be paid for care they may already give. The budget can also cover approved extras such as snow removal, small appliances or a lift chair. The veteran must be enrolled in VA health care. Ask your local VA hospital or VA clinic for a referral to the Veteran-Directed Care program, or call the Area Office on Aging at 1-800-472-7277.
The veteran must be enrolled in VA health care and needs a referral from the local VA hospital or clinic. The VA decides the care budget based on the veteran's needs with daily activities, so eligibility and budget are set by the VA.
