How to apply for SNAP food assistance in Arkansas

Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of County Operations (DCO)

Who it's for

SNAP gives a monthly benefit on an EBT card to buy groceries, and it can be used at farmers markets. In Arkansas, a household with a member who is 60 or older or who has a disability only has to meet the net income limit, which is 100% of the federal poverty guidelines after deductions. Medical costs of an older or disabled member can be deducted. Households can have up to $5,500 in countable savings for 12 months; after that the limit is $4,500 for households with someone 60 or older or disabled. A home, retirement accounts and one vehicle do not count. Apply online at Access Arkansas, with the paper SNAP Application Form, or call the Access Arkansas Call Center at 1-855-372-1084.

Income limits change each October. Households where everyone gets SSI do not have to meet the income or savings limits. The $5,500 savings limit can be used for only 12 months in a 5-year period. DHS makes the final decision and sets the benefit amount.
