How to apply for General Assistance (Contra Costa County)
Contra Costa County Employment & Human Services Department (EHSD)
Who it's for
Contra Costa General Assistance (GA) is a county-funded cash-aid program for adults who are legal residents of Contra Costa County, have no other means of support, and are not eligible for any federal or state cash assistance such as SSI, SSDI, Unemployment Insurance, or State Disability Insurance. For a low-income senior it is mainly a bridge while a Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI) claim is pending. You must be a U.S. citizen or a non-citizen legally in the country with no limitation on your stay, a resident of Contra Costa County for at least 15 days, and your personal property cannot exceed $500. The maximum monthly grant is $336 for a single employable person and $454 for an employable couple; actual amounts vary by household size, income, and employability. Apply through BenefitsCal.com, by calling 1-866-663-3225, by mail, or by dropping off a completed application at a local EHSD district office.
