How to apply for Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) — 18% Electric Bill Discount in California

California Public Utilities Commission — delivered by PG&E, Southern California Edison and SDG&E

Who it's for

FERA is an 18% discount on electric bills for households whose income is a little too high for the CARE discount. It is offered by PG&E, Southern California Edison and San Diego Gas & Electric. For June 2026 to May 2027, a household of one or two people qualifies with income from $43,281 up to $54,100 (250% of the federal poverty level). FERA customers also pay a lower monthly base charge — about $12 a month instead of $24.15. Call your electric utility to apply: PG&E 1-866-743-2273, Southern California Edison 1-866-675-6623, or SDG&E 1-800-411-7343.

Only for customers of PG&E, Southern California Edison or SDG&E. If your income is at or below the CARE limit ($43,280 for one or two people), CARE gives a bigger discount instead. Income limits rise with household size.
