How to apply for General Assistance (Mono County)

Who it's for

Mono County's General Assistance program provides interim cash aid to indigent adults and emancipated minors who are legal residents of Mono County and have no other means of support. GA benefits are considered a loan — recipients sign a reimbursement agreement to qualify. You may own up to $1,000 in personal property (the cash value of a life insurance policy counts toward this limit), applicants able to work may need to participate in employment service activities, and applicants who are permanently disabled or age 62 and older must apply for Social Security/SSI first; for a low-income senior GA is mainly a bridge while an SSI claim is pending.
