How to apply for General Relief (San Bernardino County)

San Bernardino County Transitional Assistance Department

Who it's for

General Relief (GR) is San Bernardino County's loan assistance for indigent individuals and families in temporary need of housing, food, or transportation who are ineligible for federal or state cash aid. For a low-income senior it is mainly a bridge while an SSI or CAPI claim is pending. Eligibility and grant amounts are set in the County's General Relief brochure; you must be an indigent California/San Bernardino County resident with no other income or support.

General Relief has conditions the scan cannot check for you: you must be an indigent San Bernardino County resident with no other income, support from friends/relatives, or public funds, and it is a repayable loan with time limits for employable adults. The County publishes the income/resource limits and grant amount only in its General Relief brochure, not on its public web page; confirm them and apply by calling 1-909-388-0245.

What you'll need

  • Proof of San Bernardino County residency
