Who it's for
Columbia County Senior Services (CCSS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 1972 — over 50 years of continuous operation supporting Columbia County's 60+ population. As the contracted local AAA delivery partner under Elder Options (Mid-Florida AAA, PSA 3), CCSS operates an integrated portfolio of senior services from administrative office at 628 SE Allison Court in Lake City and its Lifestyle Enrichment Centers in Lake City and Fort White. Services include: (1) FREE Congregate Meals — daily hot meals served at the Lifestyle Enrichment Centers in Lake City and Fort White; FREE for seniors 60 years and older; RSVP required; (2) Home-Delivered Meals (Meals on Wheels) — for homebound seniors age 60+; (3) In-Home Supportive Services — including personal care, homemaking, companionship, respite care; (4) DISTINCTIVE Alzheimer's Care — specialized programming and respite for seniors with cognitive impairment plus support for family caregivers; (5) Senior Transportation (fl.columbia.ccss_transportation); (6) Classes and Activities at the Lifestyle Enrichment Centers — supporting social engagement and lifelong learning; (7) Information & Referral coordinated through Elder Options' statewide helpline. Eligibility for the senior pathway is age 60+ and Columbia County residency; home-delivered meals require homebound status. Apply by calling CCSS at 386-755-0235 or via Elder Options' helpline at 1-800-262-2243.
CCSS congregate meals are genuinely FREE — no fee for seniors 60+ — just an RSVP requirement. This is more generous than peer Council on Aging programs that suggest donation amounts. The two-location Lifestyle Enrichment Centers (Lake City + Fort White) provide meaningful geographic coverage for Columbia's main population centers; rural seniors may face longer travel. Home-delivered Meals on Wheels requires homebound status. The DISTINCTIVE Alzheimer's Care programming is uncommon in peer rural FL Council on Aging records — most peer organizations refer cognitively-impaired seniors to specialized facilities rather than operating in-house programming. The 50+ year operating history reflects organizational depth and stable community relationships. Combined with CCSS transportation, in-home services, and Lifestyle Enrichment programming, CCSS provides a comprehensive single-intake senior services package.
