How to apply for Okeechobee Community Transportation (TD Curb-to-Curb)
Okeechobee Community Transportation — local Florida Transportation Disadvantaged (TD) provider serving Okeechobee County
Who it's for
Okeechobee County does not operate a fixed-route public bus system — the only county-coordinated public transit option is Community Transportation, a Florida Transportation Disadvantaged (TD) curb-to-curb shared-ride service. The service is available to seniors age 60 and older, individuals with disabilities, and low-income residents without access to other transportation. Registration is required in advance. Community Transportation connects Okeechobee residents to medical appointments, grocery stores, pharmacies, and other essential destinations within Okeechobee County and to nearby cross-county destinations when funding allows. Call 863-357-9900 to register and schedule rides. The Okeechobee Senior Services Department (1690 NW 9th Avenue, Okeechobee, FL 34972, phone 863-462-5180) is also a useful intake point and can connect Okeechobee seniors to additional transportation options including the county's veterans VA medical transportation service (separately operated for veterans needing trips to the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center).
Okeechobee has NO fixed-route public bus system — Community Transportation is the only county-coordinated transit option, and it requires advance registration and scheduling for each trip. Rural Okeechobee's small size and limited infrastructure mean transit options are materially weaker than urban-cluster peer counties. The TD-based eligibility means seniors 60+, individuals with disabilities, or low-income residents can use the service. For Okeechobee seniors without a car, this is the primary public transit option — call 863-357-9900 to register. Veterans can also access a separate transportation service operated by Okeechobee County for trips to the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center.
