How to apply for County veterans office and help (Commission of Veteran Affairs) — Adair in Iowa

Adair County Commission of Veteran Affairs

Who it's for

The Adair County Commission of Veteran Affairs is the county veterans office. The office helps veterans and their spouses learn about and apply for county, state and federal benefits, and it is accredited to file VA claims. The Adair County Veterans Relief Program, paid for by the county, helps resident veterans with emergency basic needs: rent, utilities, food, fuel and burial. To qualify, a veteran must have an honorable discharge, meet income guidelines, apply for all other benefits, and have emergency needs that cannot be met another way. Visit the office at 270 Public Square, Greenfield (Monday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.), or call 641-743-2656.

The VA and the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs decide federal and state benefits. County help is for emergency needs, follows the county's own income guidelines, and depends on the commission's budget; the commission decides each request.
