Massac County public transportation is the Shawnee Mass Transit District, the public transit provider for the five southernmost Illinois counties (Alexander, Johnson, Massac, Pulaski, Union), with a hub in Metropolis. Shawnee MTD runs fixed routes plus curb-to-curb demand-response and intercity service for medical appointments, senior centers, and essential errands across Massac County (Metropolis, Brookport, Joppa). Seniors and people with disabilities ride at reduced fares; the Illinois Benefit Access Program (Illinois Department on Aging) provides additional free/reduced fares for income-eligible riders 65+.
