How to apply for Kansas Homestead Refund for disabled veterans (Form K-40H, 50%+ service-connected)
Kansas Department of Revenue (KDOR)
Who it's for
Kansas disabled veterans can claim the Homestead Refund (Form K-40H) at any age. The refund gives back part of the property tax paid on your Kansas home, up to $700. The veteran must be a Kansas resident who was discharged under an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions, whose disability was incurred or aggravated in the line of duty, and who has a service-connected evaluation of 50% or more. Surviving spouses of disabled veterans stay eligible until they remarry. Household income must be $43,389 or less, the home cannot be valued at more than $350,000, and you must have owned and lived in the home during 2025. Veterans disability payments do not count as household income. Send a copy of your VA disability letter showing the disability date and percentage with the claim. File by April 15, 2026.
Only half of Social Security counts as income and VA disability pay does not count, so the $43,389 income limit is described rather than applied. A surviving spouse's VA letter must show the veteran's rating of 50% or more. Only one of the K-40H, K-40PT, or K-40SVR refunds can be claimed per household. KDOR makes the final decision.
