How to apply for Kansas Food Assistance (SNAP)

Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF)

Who it's for

In Kansas, the USDA SNAP program is called the Food Assistance program. It gives monthly food benefits on an EBT card, the Kansas Benefits Card, to households with low income and resources. All households may have up to $3,000 in resources, and up to $4,750 if at least one member is age 60 or older or is disabled. The home you live in and life insurance policies do not count. Households with an elderly or disabled member can deduct unreimbursed medical costs over $35 a month and shelter costs over half of their adjusted income. Elderly and disabled people can ask for a home visit or phone interview. Apply any time online at the DCF Self-Service Portal, or call 1-888-369-4777 for a paper application.

Income limits change each year, and households with an elderly or disabled member are judged under special rules, so apply even if your income seems high. DCF makes the final decision and sets the benefit amount after an interview.
