How to apply for Senior Property Tax Freeze (SB 190) — Johnson
Johnson County (program authorized by RSMo 137.1050, adopted by county action)
Who it's for
Johnson County has adopted Missouri's senior property tax credit (SB 190): homeowners 62 or older can freeze the real-estate tax bill on their primary home, so it stops rising in later years. Applications: Application Period for the Program Is April 1, 2026 - June 30, 2026. The Johnson County Commission passed "Ordinance #25-01 Authorizing a Property Tax Credit Pursuant to Senate Bill 190 and Senate Bill 756" on March 17, 2025. The Senior Tax Credit page links a 2026 New Application, a 2026 Renewal Application, an FAQ and the ordinance. Applications must be signed in front of Collector's staff or a notary and submitted before the June 30 deadline. The credit does not apply to agricultural or commercial property. Apply through the county's program office.
The freeze applies only to the primary residence, requires an application with Johnson County (often annually), and county rules control what is frozen and any home-value limits — the county makes the final determination, so this shows as a may-qualify result.
