How to apply for Senior Property Tax Freeze (SB 190) — Platte
Platte County (program authorized by RSMo 137.1050, adopted by county action)
Who it's for
Platte County has adopted Missouri's senior property tax credit (SB 190): homeowners 62 or older can freeze the real-estate tax bill on their primary home, so it stops rising in later years. Applications: Beginning in 2026, applications are accepted annually from October 1 through December 31. (The initial window ran September 3, 2024 through May 15, 2025.) An annual application is required.. Platte County Senior Citizens' Real Property Tax Credit, enacted by the Platte County Commission under Missouri Senate Bill 190. Administered by the Platte County Clerk's Office, 415 Third St, Platte City, MO 64079. Criteria: 'Must be at least 62 years of age. Must own their primary residence in Platte County. Must be responsible for the payment of property taxes on their home.' The program requires an annual application. Printable applications are posted on the county website each October and hard copies are available at the County Clerk's Office; questions to countyclerk@co.platte.mo.us or 816-858-3340. Roughly 7,000 applications were received for base year 2024. Apply through the county's program office.
The freeze applies only to the primary residence, requires an application with Platte County (often annually), and county rules control what is frozen and any home-value limits — the county makes the final determination, so this shows as a may-qualify result.
