How to apply for Senior Property Tax Freeze (SB 190) — Wright

Wright County (program authorized by RSMo 137.1050, adopted by county action)

Who it's for

Wright County has adopted Missouri's senior property tax credit (SB 190): homeowners 62 or older can freeze the real-estate tax bill on their primary home, so it stops rising in later years. Applications: Applications open January 1; the due date to make tax year 2025 the base year was May 31, 2026 (annual deadline, renewals included). "A real estate property tax credit program is now available to certain eligible Wright County residents. Eligible taxpayers must apply annually for a tax credit on their primary residence." "The Wright County Senior Real Estate Tax Relief Program was established in response to enabling legislation from the Missouri General Assembly. Wright County's program is authorized under Commission order." An eligible taxpayer must be 62 or older before January 1 of the initial credit year, be an owner of record (or hold a legal or equitable interest evidenced by a written instrument) of a homestead, and be liable for the real property taxes on it. The credit equals the difference between the current-year liability and the liability in the year the taxpayer became eligible. "For eligible taxpayers as of January 1, 2026, the credit will be calculated by using 2025 as the base tax year." Applications are obtained in person at the Wright County Collector's office and must be signed before a notary; renewals are required each year. Questions: taxrelief@wrightcollector.com. Collector's office 417-741-7225. Apply through the county's program office.

The freeze applies only to the primary residence, requires an application with Wright County (often annually), and county rules control what is frozen and any home-value limits — the county makes the final determination, so this shows as a may-qualify result.
