How to apply for Medicare Savings Programs in Mississippi (QMB, SLMB, QI)
Mississippi Division of Medicaid (DOM), through its regional offices
Who it's for
Mississippi Medicaid helps people with Medicare and limited income pay their Medicare costs. In the QMB program, Medicaid pays Medicare Part A and Part B premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance; monthly income must be less than $1,380 for one person or $1,854 for a couple. In the SLMB program (income less than $1,646 or $2,214) and the QI program (income less than $1,846 or $2,485), Medicaid pays the Medicare Part B premium. You must have Medicare Part A. In Mississippi there is no resource test for these programs, so savings do not count. SLMB and QI can start up to three months before the month you apply; QMB starts the month after you are approved. Apply online at access.ms.gov, at a Medicaid regional office, or at your local Social Security office. For questions, call the Division of Medicaid toll-free at 1-800-421-2408.
Shown against the highest tier (QI); lower income qualifies for more help. QI is paid from a limited federal amount and could be affected if the money runs out. It can take 4 to 6 weeks before the premium stops coming out of your Social Security check. The Division of Medicaid makes the final decision.
