How to apply for SNAP food assistance in Mississippi
Mississippi Department of Human Services (MDHS), Division of Economic Assistance Eligibility
Who it's for
SNAP gives a monthly benefit on an EBT card to help buy groceries. In Mississippi, SNAP is run by the Mississippi Department of Human Services through its county offices. Starting October 1, 2026, the most a one-person household can get is $306 a month, and the monthly income limit after deductions is $1,330 for one person or $1,804 for two. Households where everyone is 65 or older and no one has earnings from work use a shorter application, the SNAP Simplified Application for the Elderly (ESAP, form MDHS EA 904). People who get SSI may be able to apply through the Mississippi Combined Application Project (MSCAP). Apply online at access.ms.gov, at your county MDHS office, or call MDHS Economic Assistance Eligibility client services at 1-800-948-3050.
Income limits change each October. Medical costs and housing costs can lower your countable income. SNAP also has a limit on savings and other resources. MDHS makes the final decision and sets the benefit amount.
