The Nueces County Hospital District is the public hospital district for Corpus Christi/Nueces County, funded by county property taxes. The District CONTRACTS Christus Spohn Health System to deliver healthcare services to indigent Nueces County residents — Christus Spohn is the largest hospital network in South Texas, operating CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi-Memorial (the regional flagship), Shoreline, South, plus regional hospitals in Alice, Beeville, Kingsville, and Sinton. CHRISTUS Spohn's Financial Assistance Program provides free care at 200% Federal Poverty Level and sliding-scale assistance up to 400% FPL. Apply through CHRISTUS Spohn Patient Financial Services at 361-881-3000 or via the Nueces County Hospital District. CHRISTUS Spohn is the regional tertiary referral hospital for the entire 11-county Coastal Bend region — Aransas, Bee, Brooks, Duval, Jim Wells, Kenedy, Kleberg, Live Oak, Refugio, and San Patricio counties all refer complex cases here.
Nueces County Hospital District's contract with CHRISTUS Spohn provides the deepest safety net in the Coastal Bend region. Out-of-county residents from the 10 other Coastal Bend counties receive emergency care at CHRISTUS Spohn but typically apply through their home-county CIHCP for non-emergency care.
