Who it's for
The Five County Area Agency on Aging in St. George serves older adults and caregivers in Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Kane and Washington counties, including Washington County. Call the main office at 435-673-3548, extension 108. Case managers run in-home help programs, including the Medicaid Aging Waiver, the state Alternatives Program and Veteran Directed Care. The National Caregiver Support Program helps unpaid family caregivers. The Benefits Enrollment Center (extension 104) gives free help applying for Medicaid, HEAT, SNAP, Medicare Savings Programs and Extra Help. SHIP counselors (extension 171) explain Medicare plans, and Senior Medicare Patrol helps you spot and report Medicare fraud. Other services include the Long-Term Care Ombudsman, telephone reassurance calls and volunteer programs. Meals and activities are offered at senior centers in St. George, Hurricane and Enterprise, plus a meal site in Springdale. Call before you visit; the office may not be able to meet without an appointment.
AAA services are free or donation-based, and some have waiting lists or income rules. Most Older Americans Act services start at age 60. Utah Medicaid decides Medicaid long-term care eligibility.
