Appomattox County offers real estate tax relief (exemption) for homeowners who are 65 or older or permanently disabled. Total household income must be $35,000 or less, and net worth (not counting the home) must be $100,000 or less. File by Feb 15 annually with the Commissioner of the Revenue. First $6,500 of each non-spouse relative's income excluded; the dwelling and up to one acre (not to exceed $75,000) excluded from net worth. Elderly = 65+ on Dec 31 of preceding year; permanently/totally disabled also qualify. Apply through the local commissioner of the revenue or assessment office.
