Who it's for

City of Hampton offers real estate tax relief (mixed) for homeowners who are 65 or older or permanently disabled. Total household income must be $67,000 or less, and net worth (not counting the home) must be $200,000 or less. Two options (both at income up to $67,000 and assets up to $200,000 excluding house + up to 10 acres): a Freeze on real estate taxes or a Deferral. $7,000 income deduction per relative/non-relative (excluding spouse) in the home. Must be 65+ or permanently and totally disabled by Dec 31 of the prior year. Applications available in early May; deadline Aug. 31; first-time applicants apply in person (757-727-6690). Apply through the local commissioner of the revenue or assessment office.
