Who it's for
New Kent County offers real estate tax relief (exemption) for homeowners who are 65 or older or permanently disabled. Total household income must be $50,000 or less, and net worth (not counting the home) must be $150,000 or less. For heads of household 65 or older or totally and permanently disabled. Total combined financial worth must not exceed $150,000 (excludes the dwelling and up to 10 acres); first $10,000 of income of non-spouse relatives in the dwelling and $10,000 of a permanently disabled owner's income are excluded. Exemption of up to $1,600 for qualified applicants (per the Real Estate Tax Relief page). Apply through the local commissioner of the revenue or assessment office.
