Who it's for

Surry County offers real estate tax relief (exemption) for homeowners who are 65 or older or permanently disabled. Total household income must be $55,000 or less, and net worth (not counting the home) must be $150,000 or less. Age 65+ or totally disabled. Qualifying applicants may receive up to a $1,500.00 deduction from their real-estate taxes. Annual application due to the Commissioner of the Revenue on or before May 1 (application PDF linked from the program page). Apply through the local commissioner of the revenue or assessment office.
