City of Virginia Beach offers real estate tax relief (mixed) for homeowners who are 65 or older or permanently disabled. Total household income must be $87,419 or less, and net worth (not counting the home) must be $350,000 or less. Percentage exemption by income: 100% up to $66,714, then 80%/60%/40%/20% brackets up to $87,419. Separate tax-freeze option for household income up to $114,062, same $350,000 asset cap. Age 65 or permanently and totally disabled on or before June 30, 2026; up to $10,000 of each additional relative's income excluded. First-time applicants by appointment with the Commissioner of the Revenue (757.385.4385, req@vbgov.com), February 1 - June 30, 2026. Apply through the local commissioner of the revenue or assessment office.
