Washington County offers real estate tax relief (exemption) for homeowners who are 65 or older or permanently disabled. Total household income must be $46,363 or less, and net worth (not counting the home) must be $100,000 or less. Sliding-scale percentage discount for tax year 2026 (county code sec. 58-85): 80% for income $0-$26,343, 60% for $26,344-$31,611, 40% for $31,612-$40,041, 20% for $40,042-$46,363; net worth must be under $100,000 at all levels (application form excludes the residence and up to one acre). Income exemption of $5,867.00 for a second occupant who is not the spouse. 2026 application asks 'If NOT age 65 or over, is this application being filed due to a disability?' — disabled homeowners qualify with certification. 2026 applications due by March 6, 2026.
