How to apply for Island Rides (San Juan Islands Shuttle System) — San Juan County in Washington
San Juan Islands Shuttle System (Island Rides) — non-profit community transport
Who it's for
Island Rides gives free or by-donation rides to San Juan County residents who do not drive or have no other way to get around, including seniors and people with disabilities. It runs on Lopez, San Juan and Orcas islands and takes you to essential services, and on Lopez and Orcas it will also deliver essential supplies. Book by phone on the island you live on: San Juan 360-375-0237, Orcas 360-672-2201, Lopez 360-317-3107. Hours depend on driver availability — Lopez runs Monday to Friday 11am to 3pm and Orcas Monday to Friday 10am to 3pm. The service is run by a non-profit that has provided more than 40,000 trips and deliveries in twelve years, using mainly electric vehicles and funded by rider donations, community support and government grants.
Rides are free or by donation and there is no income test, but the service is for residents "in need" who do not drive or have no other transport — it is not a general-public bus. Hours depend on driver availability, so book ahead and expect limits. Each island has its own booking number; call the one where you live. This is a non-profit, not a county department.
