How to apply for Property Tax Deferral Loan Program (WHEDA) — Wisconsin

Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA)

Who it's for

WHEDA's Property Tax Deferral Loan Program lets homeowners 65 and older (co-owner 60+) with limited income defer property taxes: WHEDA pays the tax bill as a low-interest loan repaid when the home is sold or transferred. Applications are accepted January 1 through June 30 each year. Call WHEDA at 1-800-755-7835 for the current income limit and application.

The program's income limit and fees are set by WHEDA and not screened here — call for the current figures; this is a LOAN against the home, repaid at sale, not a grant.

What you'll need

  • Property tax bill
  • Proof of age and ownership
  • Income documentation (limit set by WHEDA)
  • Homeowner's insurance proof
