How to apply for Veterans & Surviving Spouses Property Tax Credit — Wisconsin
Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs / Department of Revenue
Who it's for
This refundable credit pays back 100% of the property taxes on the primary residence (up to one acre) for eligible Wisconsin veterans with a 100% service-connected disability rating (including individual unemployability) and for eligible unremarried surviving spouses receiving DIC. There is no income limit. First get a certification of eligibility from the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, then claim the credit on the state income tax return.
The credit requires a 100% service-connected disability rating (or DIC surviving-spouse status) verified by WDVA — the rating requirement is stricter than the veteran screen here, so this shows as a may-qualify result.
What you'll need
- WDVA certification of eligibility
- Property tax bill for the principal dwelling
- Wisconsin income tax return (credit claimed on it)
