How to apply for County veterans office and help (Commission of Veteran Affairs) — Adams in Iowa
Adams County Commission of Veteran Affairs
Who it's for
The Adams County Commission of Veteran Affairs is the county veterans office. The office helps veterans, their families and dependents apply for benefits such as VA medical care, compensation and pension, the Iowa Veterans Home, military records, grave markers and home loans. Eligible veterans with financial hardships may apply for temporary emergency assistance. The county-funded Adams County Veterans Relief Program helps resident veterans with emergency basic needs: rent, utilities, food, fuel and burial. To qualify, a veteran must have an honorable discharge, meet income guidelines, apply for all other benefits, and have emergency needs that cannot be met another way. Visit the office at the Courthouse, 500 Ninth St., Corning (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed for lunch noon to 1 p.m.)), or call 641-322-4455.
The VA and the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs decide federal and state benefits. County help is for emergency needs, follows the county's own income guidelines, and depends on the commission's budget; the commission decides each request.
