How to apply for Indiana Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP)
Indiana Department of Health + FSSA Division of Aging — administer SFMNP through the Area Agencies on Aging
Who it's for
Indiana's Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) provides vouchers (typically around $50 per program year) for residents age 60+ at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level to buy fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs at participating farmers' markets and roadside stands. Distributed seasonally (summer/fall) through the local Area Agencies on Aging while supplies last. Contact your local AAA via the INconnect Alliance at 1-800-986-3505.
SFMNP is a small but easy seasonal benefit (~$50 in farmers'-market vouchers) for low-income seniors at ≤185% FPL. Distributed through the AAAs while funds last — apply early in the season.

What to say when you call
"Hello, I'm calling to ask about Indiana Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). I'd like to know whether I may qualify, what documents I need, and whether I can apply online, by mail, by phone, or in person. I understand I may need proof of age 60+, proof of Indiana residency, self-declared income at or below 185% FPL — is anything else required? What is the best next step?"
Tip: have a pen ready, ask for the person's name, and write down any case or reference number they give you.
Step by step
- Gather your required documents: proof of age showing you are 60 or older, proof of Indiana residency, and a self-declaration of income at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level.
- Apply online or by phone. To apply by phone, call the INconnect Alliance at 1-800-986-3505 to reach your local Area Agency on Aging.
- Submit your documents and income information as directed by your local Area Agency on Aging representative.
- Ask the representative when vouchers are expected to be distributed in your area, and confirm that funds are still available — vouchers are distributed while supplies last.
- Once approved, receive your farmers' market vouchers and use them at participating farmers' markets and roadside stands to buy fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
What to expect: After submitting your application, your local Area Agency on Aging will review your information. Processing times vary, so ask your representative for an estimate. If approved and vouchers are still available, you will receive your seasonal vouchers to use at participating farmers' markets and roadside stands. Because this is a seasonal program with limited funding, vouchers can run out — applying early in the summer or fall season gives you the best chance of receiving them. Benefits must be renewed each year, so plan to reapply at the start of each new program season.
