How to apply for KanCare Frail Elderly (FE) HCBS waiver: in-home care instead of a nursing home in Kansas
Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS)
Who it's for
The Frail Elderly (FE) waiver is a KanCare (Medicaid) home and community based services program that gives Kansas seniors an alternative to nursing home care. Services include personal care, adult day care, home and vehicle changes, medical equipment and supplies, home telehealth, medication reminders, personal emergency response, and wellness monitoring. To be eligible you must be 65 years old, meet the Medicaid nursing facility threshold score, and be financially eligible for Medicaid. A family member other than a spouse or legal representative can be chosen to provide attendant care. To start, call the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) at 1-855-200-2372 for options counseling and a functional eligibility assessment.
You must need the level of care given in a nursing facility (decided by a functional assessment) and be financially eligible for Medicaid; the KanCare Clearinghouse decides Medicaid eligibility, client obligation, and spend down. Services and hours depend on your assessed needs. Ask the ADRC whether there is a waiting list.
