How to apply for Kansas State Veterans' Cemeteries (Fort Dodge, Fort Riley, WaKeeney, Winfield)

Kansas Office of Veterans Services (KOVS)

Who it's for

The Kansas Office of Veterans Services runs four State Veterans' Cemeteries: Fort Dodge, Fort Riley, WaKeeney, and Winfield. Veterans and their dependents get burial space, a grave liner, opening and closing of the grave, perpetual care, a headstone or marker, and placement of cremated remains at no charge. Veterans discharged from active duty under other than dishonorable conditions, veterans who died on active duty, and National Guard or Reserve members with 20 years of qualifying service who are entitled to retired pay can qualify. There is no Kansas residency requirement. Spouses, surviving spouses, and dependent children can also be buried there, even if the veteran is not. Pre-registration is free; use KVCP Form 200 by mail, in person at a cemetery, or through a Veteran Service Representative field office. Call the KOVS central office at (785) 296-3976.

Eligibility follows VA National Cemetery Administration rules. Pre-registration confirms eligibility but does not guarantee a gravesite. Some extra services may have fees; ask the cemetery. KOVS decides eligibility.
