How to apply for Senior Transportation — OFA Senior Transport + Taxi Tickets, MAX Bus, CDTA Half Fare (Montgomery County) in New York
Montgomery County Office for the Aging (OFA Senior Transport volunteer rides and Taxi Tickets for residents 60+); Montgomery Area Xpress (MAX) commuter bus operated by Brown Coach for the county; CDTA Half Fare ID issued in Amsterdam
Who it's for
Three ways for Montgomery County seniors to get around. (1) OFA Senior Transport: the Office for the Aging uses volunteer drivers to take residents age 60 and older to non-emergency medical appointments (office visits, lab work, dental and optical visits, outpatient procedures), local or out of town, based on driver availability; a $5.00 contribution per one-way ride is suggested and no one is turned away for inability to pay; book at least seven days ahead. (2) Taxi Tickets: OFA vouchers that cover part or sometimes all of the cost of a taxi to medical appointments, for adults 60 and older. Call the Office for the Aging at 518-843-2300 (Amsterdam and Canajoharie offices). (3) The Montgomery Area Xpress (MAX) commuter bus, run by Brown Coach for the county, links Amsterdam, Fonda/Fultonville, Canajoharie, St. Johnsville, FMCC and the county offices on weekdays; fares are $1.00 to $2.00 each way, exact change, with no separate senior fare (Brown Coach 518-843-4700). Riders 65 and older can get a CDTA Half Fare ID for CDTA routes at Centro Civico, 143 E. Main Street, Amsterdam, on the first Tuesday of each month, 10 a.m. to noon (518-337-9683).
OFA Senior Transport rides depend on volunteer driver availability and are for medical appointments only; Taxi Tickets cover medical trips and may cover only part of the fare. The MAX bus has no senior discount, and the CDTA half fare (65+) applies only on CDTA routes. Call the Office for the Aging at 518-843-2300 to check what is available for your trip.
