How to apply for Area Agency on Aging services (Southeastern Utah AAA, SERDA) — Emery
Southeastern Utah Area Agency on Aging (SERDA)
Who it's for
The Southeastern Utah Area Agency on Aging, run by SERDA in Price, serves older adults in Carbon, Emery and Grand counties. San Juan County has its own Area Agency on Aging. Its programs include the Medicaid Waiver and New Choices Waiver, which help people who need nursing-home-level care get services at home, and the Alternatives program, which gives in-home help to Utah residents so they can keep living at home. The Utah Caregiver Support Program offers short-term respite care for people caring for homebound seniors. SHIP counselors give free, unbiased one-on-one help with Medicare, Medicare Advantage, drug plans and Medigap, and they do not sell insurance. The Senior Medicare Patrol helps people spot and report Medicare fraud. Veterans who want to direct their own care can ask about the Veteran Directed Home and Community Based Service Program. Call the case manager and SHIP coordinator at 435-613-0036. In Emery County, local senior centers include senior centers in Castle Dale (435-381-2422), Huntington (435-687-2502), Ferron (435-384-2243), Emery (435-286-2219) and Green River (435-564-8236).
Most services are free or by donation, and some have waiting lists. Older Americans Act services start at age 60. Medicaid (through the Department of Workforce Services) decides Medicaid Waiver eligibility.
