How to apply for Utah Medicaid for people who are aged (65+), blind, or disabled

Utah Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Medicaid; eligibility decided by the Department of Workforce Services (DWS)

Who it's for

Utah's Aged, Blind or Disabled Medicaid programs are medical assistance programs for people who are 65 or older, blind, or disabled, and who have low income and limited resources. You must also meet Utah residency, income, and citizenship rules. People who get SSI or Social Security Disability benefits meet the disability condition; if you do not get those benefits, the State Medicaid Medical Review Board may make a disability decision. If your monthly income is over the Medicaid limit, you may still qualify through the Spenddown (Medically Needy) program, where you pay the amount over the limit to the state or toward medical bills. Most Medicaid programs can also cover medical care for up to three months before the month you apply. Apply online through myCase, by mail, by fax, or at any DWS office. For help applying, call DWS at 801-526-0950 in Salt Lake County or toll free 1-866-435-7414.

Utah Medicaid has several programs for older and disabled adults, each with its own income and resource rules, so no single income limit is used here. People with income over the limit may still qualify through spenddown. People under 65 must meet disability or blindness rules. DWS makes the final decision.
